After having ridden Harleys for 2-3 years I test rode a Harley Davidson V-Rod. I was told to be careful because if I twisted the throttle I would be well over 100 before I knew it. Of course I took that as a challenge and they were correct. I was up to 110 in a couple of seconds. Coming back from the test ride I exited the freeway and the exit had a 270 degree turn and crossed back over the freeway. I misjudged my speed and almost didn’t make that turn, and that was with 2-3 years and 40-50k miles of experience.
I personally will never own a Harley Davidson V-Rod because it is too tempting to ride it fast. I think it is a terrible bike to buy for your first bike.
I recommend you start with a 250. I would not start with more than a Sportster. Let the Harley Davidson V-Rod be your second bike, if not your third.
