Urijah Faber is looking to make a comeback, and he sees the UFC-WEC merger as the perfect time to make it happen:

“Some people either think that we are the UFC or think that I fight in the UFC or they ask, ‘When you going to go to the big show?’ For me, I’ve known for a long time that we’re the top fighters in the world at our weights, but not everyone else understands that. We don’t have to explain it anymore. That’s great.

Business-wise, you look at the bonuses, you’re going from $10,000 to $65,000.

Pay-per-view averages and everything else is up, and viewership’s up.

The bottom line is, I feel like I resonate with fans. You couple that with the UFC fan base, it’s going to be a great thing. I’m looking forward to having my brightest days in the future. I feel great at this new weight. My body feels incredible, and I’m still motivated to fight. These next couple of years are going to be awesome.”

Former WEC featherweight champion Urijah Faber can’t wait to get inside the Octagon in 2011 and beyond. And it’s not just about the Benjamins — “The California Kid” can now say with confidence that he is competing at the highest level under the sport’s most recognized brand.

Faber takes on Takeya Mizugaki in the WEC 52 main event on Nov. 11, and it’s his 135-pound debut. With a win, Faber would be firmly entrenched in the hunt for the title and may get a shot early in the New Year.

Bantamweight champ Dominick Cruz defends his belt against Scott Jorgensen at WEC 53, which sets the stage for big-time match ups when the promotion (WEC) folds into the UFC at the end of the year.

Yeah, that’s Master Thong. His is a martial arts name to rival Bruce Lee, a name straight out of a Kung Fu Theatre production from the 70’s, and it has to be the greatest name sported by a trainer since Bundini Brown.

A fighter’s string is like a spider’s web, and the wrong tug at the right time can snap the strand taut or leave two pieces fluttering in the breeze.

For Urijah Faber, the string hangs in two pieces.

The secret of being a great trainer and mentor is understanding the needs of your man.

Master Thong would do well to begin training Faber with the tools a man needs to get by when the fighting’s done, and he may well have already begun the process.

Faber was a great champion, and like so many fine fighters have before him, it would be a sorry shame to see him battle on past the point where heart is no longer enough to carry the day.

Jose Aldo’s eye-opening bout at WEC 38: Varner vs. Cerrone against Rolando Perez signaled the start of a meteoric rise for the Brazilian sensation.

Aldo proceeded to strip Perez down with leg kicks and finished him off with a flying knee which became the stuff of legend, and as Aldo bolted out of the cage and up into the stands to celebrate, it was clear he was a force to be reckoned with for the immediate future.

Aldo went on to eviscerate Chris Mickle at WEC 39: Brown vs. Garcia. Aldo once again displayed unparalleled speed and savvy, beating Mickle to the punch time after time until a knee to the guts put Mickle on the defensive and, ultimately, forced the referee to stop the fight.

With the MMA community on the edge of their collective seats, Aldo faced his first major test against veteran Cub Swanson at WEC 41: Brown vs. Faber 2.

Eight seconds into the fight, Aldo caught Swanson with a pair of flying knees and created for himself a permanent addition to the MMA highlight reels. At the end, Swanson looked like a man who fell face-first into a food processor and Aldo was in line for greater things.

The blitzkrieg win over Swanson set up a title shot against hard-nosed champion Mike Brown, but few were convinced Aldo’s stylish methods would stand up to the power of the champ .

The Brazilian’s first title fight took place at WEC 44: Brown vs. Aldo on November 18, 2009, and Aldo displayed fearsome speed and agility.

A textbook spinning back kick – flying knee combination damaged Brown and led to a fusillade punches which resulted in a TKO stoppage and gave Aldo the title.

Expect more of the same against the high-profile but now shaky Urijah Faber at WEC 48 this weekend.

With two spectacular wins that sky-rocketed him into the pound-for-pound stratosphere, WEC bantamweight champion Miguel Angel Torres has been one of 2008’s great success stories.
